2005 Cottesbrook Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand, $5.75, tasted 2/26/2009.
Grassy, flinty, citrusy, and varietally correct nose for the region. Crisp with good fruit and a medium finish. I don’t know how The Cork managed to be able to offer such a good Sauvignon Blanc at that price – a fantastic bargain! I suspect it won’t last long. The Raymond Rating = 87 points.
2005 Fat Cat Pinot Noir, California, $11.25, tasted 2/26/2009.
An herbal nose with sweet cherries and a hint of sautéed mushrooms. Medium fruit with a little complexity and soft tannins on a medium finish. A great value for a Pinot Noir of this quality! The Raymond Rating = 86 points.
